Should I feather the throttle into and out of gear or do it quickly? If I go slowly into forward or reverse I hear the clack, clack, clack of the spindle (or whatever makes this noise) until I advance it enough for it to grab. If I go quickly, I get a ka-thud and I'm in. Niether of these seem to be a problem but I just want to use the method that will be best in the long run. Parts and all being what they are...any tips?

Let's get this to the I/O section for an answer.

The quick way is how you do it. The clack clack clack that you hear are the teeth in the dog clutch not engaging right away.
