Hello I'm hoping I can get a straight answer here but anything will help, I have a 1990 40hp evinrude vro. I turn the key and I get a constant ringing that does not stop. I haven't even turned over the engine and the ringing starts. The engine starts and runs good, I get a good "pee" flow of water coming out and I can run it for the entire day but the ringing will go away and come back thought out the day. When I was out on the water running i would wiggle some wires underneath the helm and it would go away so I am not sure if it is just a wire getting a bad connection or what is going on. I'm not sure what wire to follow or what I should do. I called and talk to a mechanic at a local marina and he seems to think it is a oil sending unit? Which is part of the vro system? I'm not sure, I have never had to work on an outboard motor before so if anyone has any ideas regarding the issue I would appreciate if you could "dumb it down" for me thanks!
