1990 60HP Cowl Removal

Recently purchased a 1990 Starcraft SS160 with a same year 60HP 3 cyl Merc Outboard.

Serial No. on O/B is OC244889

I did a quick look and try to take cowling off so I could take a peek at motor but it wasn't obvious there was a lever there like on my old Honda I used to have.

Anyone know how to remove this cowling?

Easy to do.First remove the small front cover by twisting knob in and rotate,there is a spring on it so you need to depress it.This will expose your two latches on the fwd side of the clamshell cowling.Release those two latches and swing both sides of the cowling aft,while supporting the weight of the cowling.Your cowl has 2 pins on the aft side that you will see when its off.Only open the clamshell about 45 degrees and then pull aft! Piece of cake,I have the same motor but an 89 model.

Much thanks to you.....your directions were perfect and the cowling came off in no time.

How do you like your 1989 model? Prolly pretty good since ya still got it.
