With all the knowledge on this site, i'm sure someone has heard of this. From my reading so far, it seems I will have to get a friend over to test spark. Here goes..
1990 bayliner capri 1800. Took it out this weekend and had 6 people in it. Ran fine, just slow. About 25 mph and took forever to plane out. After I dropped them off, I ran around myself and hit 38 and it revved much higher. Then it started. I started turning and it was like it died for a second and popped back on. It continued to do this until it was doing it when I was in a straight line. When I would hit the throttle from a stop it would lunge forward for a second like it was fine then go back to running rough and at about 10mph. We took the plugs out and the top one was somewhat wet, while the bottom 2 were nice and dry. We went and got new plugs, poured in some seafoam and tried it again. It is now to a point where that top cyclinder isnt even kicking in like it was. It will for a split second when you turn the boat sharply into a circle and go back over the wake. Is this because it briefly takes it off the load? Any help or insight is greatly appreciated!!! Thank you in advance! Bill

Of all things it was the top carb. I thought for sure it was gonna be electrical. He had just cleaned them so he cleaned them under warranty. Still having problem with my tilt trim valve body. My stupid *** took it apart and now I have ball bearings and springs with no clue where they go. Or what I even need to replace. I will start a new thread to see if anyone knows. THanks!!!

""We took the plugs out and the top one was somewhat wet, while the bottom 2 were nice and dry. ""

You don't want any of the plugs to be dry.

Dry is NOT nice on a 2 stroke motor.

It will die and early death.

Re: 1990 90 horse force lost 1st cylinder

Gentlemen feeling alone at sea. I also have this issue but it not the top cylinder it is the bottom cylinder. I have went as far as replacing the main controll (CDI) and still have the issue. 35 hp 1991 Force. I know I am getting good spark, compression. Could it be the reed values? Why I ask, is I found chunks of rubber from the prime balls and fuel line. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Re: 1990 90 horse force lost 1st cylinder

I had the carb jet suck up a piece of dirt and plug it. While it's running spray carb cleaner in the carb of the dead cylinder. See if that works. Then u know it's fuel. The 1st problem I had the beginning of the year I had spark all 3 and fuel so it didn't make any sense. We tried the carb trick and it did nothing. Then he dug deeper and found a diaphragm on the side of the motor that had a pinhole in which was leaking so much gas in that cylinder it was so flooded even carb cleaner wouldn't fire it. If u need you can message me and I can help you out more or you can call me. I know how frustrating this can be!!
