1990 Evinrude Oil Injector Question

 I have a 90 HP V4 Evinrude Model E90TLCC. Didn't want to idle or run at idle speed correctly after 9 months of storage. I cleaned the carb jets prior to putting it back in water. Decided to change the plugs to see if performance improved. When I changed the plugs I noticed that the 2 on the port(left?) side were still damp after being out for a while, and the starboard side were now dry. Now I'm worried about lubrication.

My questions are:
1. Does the top carburator feed the top two cylinders or just the right or left bank?
2. Where does the oil injector inject the oil into, the carb gas line or the crank case?
Guess you can tell I don't know much about outboard construction/principals, but I try.

Re: 1990 Evinrude Oil Injector Question

Die Hard: I'm pretty sure the top carb feeds the top two cylinders and of course bottom feeds bottom two..
The VRO pump pumps both oil and fuel at the same time and mixes oil and fuel inside the VRO pump then distributes the fuel to the carburators only not the crankcase.. Since you are concerned about lubrication you can remove the VRO pump and replace it with an older model standard fuel pump and mix your own fuel at 50:1 ratio.. ;)

Just disconnect the VRO and be done with it! I Did! Very simple and you don't need to buy anything, as the VRO/Fuel pump is a very good design. Check out how I was told to do mine and it works fine! Click Below!

VRo Disconnect

Die Hard,I would also recommend you follow Ricks advice and scrap the vro set-up.I also defeated mine about a month ago and don't experience flat spots on accelleration anylonger or smoky start-ups.1995 70hp evinrude. It's never run better.

Re: 1990 Evinrude Oil Injector Question

Thanks for the great info Snapper and Rick. I'll definitly remove the VRO as noted in post of removing it. I just hope it's not too late. I don't like the noise and shaking I get at idle, even though it gets up on plane with no problem. Crusing at idle speed I sometimes have to push the choke to keep it from dying out. But then that's another post after I remove the VRO! :D

Best to get a rebuild kit for the Carbs! Most times just cleaning them and putting the old parts back in just does'nt get it. Needle Valves and other components wear out and can cause the trouble you spaek of. Just get a set of rebuild kits( About 15.00 apiece) and rebuild them. It sure won't hurt and I bet it will help!

Gotta do some road paving with the Mrs.first.I'm kind of anal for OMC props and they run close to 400 for SST.I'll figure something out.
