I have 1990 Force 120hp outboard. The tilt & trim units are both leaking down. I was told by Mercury the pump and motor assy is Mercury part #853515A1 and it is no longer available. I bought a used complete tilt & trim unit and installed it. It leaks down worse than my original unit. The rebuild kit for this unit is also no longer available. I haved searched internet for this unit and have come up with nothing available but a couple used units and I already had bad luck doing that. Does anybody have any advice on where I could purchase this pump and motor assy? Or any advice on somebody that rebuilds these units? All answers will be appreciated. Thanks

Hi I have a force and I had the smae problem and I fixed mine with some parts at any sears or lawn mower repair shop. Your problem is in the valve body there are small valves that the rubber falls apart on and it oil just bleeds by. Do a serch on here for force 50 valve body or tim tilt rebild and you will find the part # of a lawnmower carb kit yes its from a brigs motor and yes all the orings you need will be there too and all parts will not fall apart in oil or gas. My tilt trim has been working for over a year now and the guys on here are great guy with lots of info.

I did some more research into materials. Viton is generally the most durable and withstands the widest variety of chemicals. However, viton does not hold up under gasahol. Therefore the briggs carb kits have to be made from nitrile (aka BUNA). This is the same material as original.

What do I need to be careful of when taking unit apart? Are there any special tools required? Do you know how to contact the ebay guy that rebuilds these tilt & trim units? Thanks for help

RRitt. Thanks for your reply to my question. Do you rebuild Force tilt & trim units? I have 2 complete units that both are leaking down. Is it possible to send you one of these units for you to rebuild? Thanks. Jeff1222
