1990 Glassport

hello all Purchased a 1990 Glassport 18' a year ago. Has a 3.0 murcruiser, and alpha one out drive. Everything mechanical works great. I have started to notice some floor rot, and the seats are starting to crack. I have no problems fixing the boat floor. I just dont want to get in over my head money wise. Doest anyone have a rough estimate on what kind of money Im looking at on worst case senerio for entire floor replacement. I also dont find much info on this kind of boat any experts out there. I belive the manuf. was Waitburo. I have been reading these forums for awhile now one of my favorite past times.

Welcome to iboats.

Floors are called decks.

Decks rot from the inside out so until you remove the decking the amount of money is completely unknown.

You can figure on 1/2" exterior plywood, fiberglass or epoxy resin, cloth, paint, foam.............

Far too many variables. Read through the restoration section and you can anticipate what you may be up against.

The best thing to do is read a some restoration threads and find one that makes the most sense with materials, technique, etc. and use it as a guide. As Bob said, there are too many variables to contend with to offer good advice at this moment.

Here are some thoughts to consider:
wood: exterior grade, treated, marine grade...
resin: polyester, epoxy...
foam: leave out or replace...
finish: carpet, vinyl, paint, non-skid, ...

I too have been working away on a Glassport, and your right, not much info out there on the brand specifically. Once you get down into it, they are all very much the same in concept and design. I think what you will see between different manufactures is a difference in quality and attention to detail.

I was not overly impressed with these two aspects of my Glassport. There were several areas where the fiberglass stringers were not fully wetted out, and many design details that let uncoated/unglassed/unpainted wood to sit in water. The deck was attached by a pneumatic staple gun with steel staples that in many places shot out the side of the stringers.

The model is a 190 I/O per the Plate on the inside of the boat. I did do a little more exploring today, and the DECKING is rotting in two areas. The stingers, and everything else look to be in good shape. I will post some pics. MountaineerMiner your boat is very similar you will have a very nice boat by the way it looks when you are done will follow your post. Do you know if there are any websites out there for just Glassport boats? I dont see many around at all were they a cheaper boat or did they just not sell very well? Thanks again

I think they were a cheaper boat in there day...the name even kind of sounds like it to me...like a rip off of Glastron...I could be wrong though. It doesn?t bother me at all, I figure at the age of our boats even a Chris-Craft will need a redo if not maintained properly. I just haven?t decided if I would put their name back on the side or not...at this stage I might as well put my name on the side

I haven?t even really found any for sale online, let alone a website for them. I guess they were all either scraped or too good to let go

I do wish I had the merc/chevy setup you have over my omc/ford. But, at least the price was right...

What a beautiful boat. I had one loved the way it handled and very stought in the bigger waves. The 3.0L pushed this thing about 40 mph with a 17p prop. It was really a turn key and go boat. Best of luck with your project, you'll love it when its done. I'm still kicking myself in the *** for selling it. Won't let me upload a pic but it had a great interior set up in it.

i have a 1987 but they stoped makeing glassports in 1989
