1990 GT200 Water Pressure issues

I've searched several forums 'till I was blue in the face and my fingers are now numb. I'm having issues getting water psi on my fresh built GT200 with a Bob's LWP. It has a new impeller, but what I'm noticing when I run it in the bucket is a lot of water coming out between the mid and the lower. Am I missing a gromet or o-ring for the water pick up tube heading to the upper? It seems like a loose fit, but I have nothing to go off of as I can't find a diagram worth it's weight. I've re-sealed the water pump housing twice, I'm fairly certain that's good.

Any info/advise would be appreciated.

Thanks

Dustin

Well I guess I'll just pull the lower unit off yet again and blankly stare at it. I'm not understanding one bit, surely there is an answer to this I'm not seeing.

OK, let's back up a bit. When you say you can't get the psi you're looking for, what do you mean? Are we talking about at idle on the hose/bucket? In the water at idle? At wot in the water?

Which pump kit did you use - the 5001594 or 5001595?

Are the t-stats in or out?

T-Stats in, don't plan on pulling 'em for cooler weather boating - I don't have the Sierra part number on the pump kit, has 0 psi @ idle and < 10 psi at 5K R's, closer to 5 psi. Tell tale is weak, but these all look weak. Excessive water running out between the lower/mid while running in the tub.

If it were mine I'd put the E-rude 5001595 kit in, not the Sierra.

Where are you picking up the pressure reading at? IE- where is the line T'd into the system for the pressure gauge?

Re: 1990 GT200 Water Pressure issues

It was T'd below the water diverter valve, now it's coming off the fitting by the on the l/h side of the block up top by the head. I've since tonight after running in the bucket moved the pressure gauge to the fitting in the top of the mid that was capped off via a pipe plug.

Well, I ran it in the bucket, had a friend bring over the thermo gun. Ran for 10 minutes or better at a fast idle, water psi was under 5 for sure in the tank but higher than it seems to be in the river/lake. The heads got up to 118 after 10 minutes, but I think that's even because the exhaust was dumping into the same tub it was sucking from and causing the tub water to get warmer.

The water leaking between the mid and lower = warm like the tell tale. I'm honestly thinking I have no worries, but I'm paranoid about it, for good reasons. I need to get a couple of temp senders for the heads to hook up my temp gauge in the dash and then I'll have no worries.

Thanks again

Dustin

So have I answered my own questions then?

How about some place to order sending units for my temp gauge? Seems the marine shops around here think I'm high for asking for such a thing.

The correct place to T in is into the line coming up from the adaptor plate going to the water control valve. Picking up the water anywhere else will give you a false reading. Do not T it into the overboard indicator line as you would on a crossflow.

Is this a Hydrostream Vector?

Yes on a Hydrostream Vector.

After some searching where I'm not tapped into is a direct feed from the water pump and should tell me directly from there vs running through the motor etc... so I thought I'd try it. It's been raining so I haven't had a chance to run it in the tub to see if it changed.

There is a grommet in the BRP kit for the water tube into the pump housing.

Good, but make sure it's the OMC model not the Merc model. Also when running the motor on land make sure the motor is deep enough in the tub or bucket to put the pump under water.
