Hello everyone, this is my first post here tho I've been reading a lot of useful info on this forum lately so I figured this would be a good place to get some help.

I purchased a 1990 Johnson 20hp the other day and tho it does run it has no low throttle or idle. With the cover off it has a ton of play where the throttle cable turns and rotates a black shaft (sorry I don't know the correct terms) you can tell that the carb doesn't move much at all so 80% of the throttle adjustment is none existent at this point. This seems to be the only thing wrong with the motor so far other than the prop being destoryed, got it for 200 bucks so I think I got a pretty good deal if it is a 1990 can't find the model number anywhere looks like it might have been removed.

Think I figured out what's going on, my motor doesn't have the throttle lever bracket parts 35 and 36

ordered them along with a carb rebuild kit and see if I can get this thing going.

Yep, there are TWO supports on the throttle lever, upper and lower. Both must be present or that lever flops around. Also, you may need to have the throttle pickup adjusted - it's the small cylinder with set-screw on the horizontal throttle rod that runs from the throttle lever to the linkage by the carb.

Thanks for the advice Sir after I get the bracket on I'll look into throttle adjustment if needed.
