Kill switch?

i thought that too but check it while still on the water by jumping one side to the other with wire not that. so i did some research on i boats lookin at some other threads and and checked the ohms on the ignition trigger as well as the stator well im not reading anthing on the trigger at all. and on the stator i read ohms between red to red ,yellow to yellow but nothing blue to blue or when i cross any of the above what does this mean

Tyler: Go back and start with the simplest. Since the kill switch goes to ground to stop the engine you can not test it by jumping across it. To eliminate this and the ignition switch, Disconnect either the blue or white wires at the engine terminal. If your engine has a Mercury ignition, disconnect the black and yellow at the ignition switch and disconnect the jumper from it to the kill switch. If you can't do that, and it is Mercury ignition, since the engine will start and run with no controls attached, simply unplug the wiring harness inside the engine. Then jump the solenoid to crank it. If it starts and runs you know the problem is in the wiring between the engine and dashboard.

ok i will do as you say but even with it off the stator isnt showing any cross resistence does that mean it is fried no good or is there a chance for misreading,im going to put it back yogether now. here is my prob as well ,,i dont know what year my motor is for sure its been painted over and the guy said it was a 91 but i have no proof
