I just bought an 87 Stratos 187 F/S, the previous owner installed a 1991 Force 150 on the boat.

The tilt and trim works fine and does not seem to leak down at all. However when I went to the lake today for the first time I noticed that while at idle in gear the trim goes all the way up and down as normal, as soon as you put power to it the trim will only move a few degrees up. So bottom line is even up on plane its running like its trimmed almost full down, It will only make about 42 mph and 4800 rpm. I cant get the boats nose up at all the trim just seems like it only has a few degrees of travel either way before it gets into the tilt.. Is this normal or what can check ??

A friend of mine has a 93 Stratos with a Yamaha 150 and it throws roster tails and makes about 55 mph..

Cycle it all the way to full tilt and back down a couple of times while on the trailer and then check the fluid level. Top it off as needed and cycle the tilt to bleed air from the cylinders. You may have air in the cylinder. Cycling it will help to remove the air especially if you need to refill the reservoir.

Lacking that, it sounds like worn pump gears and that means a rebuilt pump.

Yeah im having a prob. figuring out where the fluid fill is I see the cylinder on the right side of the engine has to wires out the top going through a threaded cap. Then down further has what looks like a big plastic plug took it off looked inside looked full I guess, stuck my finger in and the oil was very clear type of oil is that it ?? how much fluid does it take??
