1991 Four Winns Gas cap

-the ski rope caught my gas cap and tore it off
-its a plastic gas cap

1) Do they make replacement caps ? ( havent been able to find any)
2) Do they make a plug for it to fill the hole temporary?
3) I looked inside the boat to replace the whole insert... how and the HELL do you get your hands in there to untighten and tighten the fastener to the gas line to get the old one out and the new one in?
4) I dont see the vent by the gas cap... where else would it be?

Thanks!!!

Also,
-what is the small black wire hooked up to the negative on my battery? My depth finder went out and the wire connection Im talking about is shot.... Im wondering if that would fix my problems

Thanks Again

It would help if you could tell us what model you have, and maybe post pictures.

My 1992 Four Winns probably had the same cap as yours. I replaced the whole assembly with a metal cap and neck. Mine is on the rear starboard corner of the boat.
I had to contort myself under the transom to loosen the hose clamps attaching the hose to the filler neck. I don't know of any other way to do it.
My vent is located just above the swim platform.

If there's a shot wire it needs to be fixed anyway, then see if it solves your depth finder problem.

--- Not sure if the attachment worked, but I tried sending 2 photos.
I have absolutey no idea how Im going to get inside to loosen the clamps. I can barely see it. I think mhy vent is in the same location. Is there supposed to be a cap on it or just an open hole?

Well after you remove the 4-screws holding the fitting to the deck, there may be enough slack in the hose for you to remove the clamps from the outside.

Yours is exactly the same as mine. I could not see the clamps either, but I could reach inside (with the battery removed) and feel them enough to loosen the clamps. I used a nut driver so I didn't have to worry about fitting a screwdriver into the slot.
Once the clamps were loose (there are two on mine) I slid them down the hose a little and was then able to pull the hose up through the hole from the outside. I removed the old filler neck, inserted the new one, pushed it back in place and mounted it with new screws. I then reached back under the transom and managed to reposition and re-tighten the clamps.
I replaced the filler neck and cap with a flush-fitting type so it doesn't catch any ropes! Like this: http://www.iboats.com/Seadog-Stainl...9318896--session_id.690487337--view_id.685916

The vent should NOT be an open hole; if it is there is a chance for water to get in. You can replace the vent fitting.

You can't remove the clamps from the outside. The hole for the filler neck is too small for the clamp to pass. I tried it, I know.

-Ok thanks.. I still dont know how Im going to reach way back in there to loosen the clamps but somehow I will. My vent hole is on the driverside, on the top, near the back seat. I just noticed it is an open hole and it looks like something cracked off if it. Where does the vent line go to? straight to the gas tank? Also Is that an easy remplacement?

Also, is there a sight to find parts that will fit the best for older models, such as my 1991 Four Winns. Or are they all pretty much compatabile?

Thanks

The vent line follows the same route as the fill line. The vent line runs to the front of the tank while the fill line runs to the rear. You should be able to see both of them running alongside the starboard side of the engine if you remove the doghouse.

You will not find direct replacement parts. I showed you a link to a suitable gas fill above. Here's a link to vent fittings: http://www.iboats.com/Fuel-Vents-Fuel-System-Accessories/dm/*******.749318896--session_id.210597906--view_id.238202
