I just bought a fishing boat with a 1991 Johnson 90 HP out board. I took it out for the first time the other day. I ran the boat for about 10 -15 minutes with no problems, I then fished for a couple of hours then restarted the boat and ran for about 5- 10 minutes, I was approaching an idle zone so I slowed down to a fast idle. After a 1-2 minute a continuous alarm started going off, I immediately shut down the motor. I restarted the motor after 5-10 minutes and ran the it for another 10 -15 minutes back to the ramp.

The water pump indicator was always producing a steady stream of water, but it each time I checked it it never felt warm.

Before I took the boat out I pump every bit of gas out of it through the bulb primer and put fresh gas in it.

The boat has a water pressure gauge and if I remember correctly it was showing 2-4 lbs during idle and 6-10 while running.

Do you have any suggestions?...Thanks

New boat/motor to you? Is this a new problem with a boat you have had for a while? What part of the world do you live in?

Could be as simple as a stuck thermostat.
