1991 Mariner Outboard

Replaced impeller, works good with a new one installed.
How long will gas stay good, I live in Orlando, Florida.
Boat stays in garage while not being used. Was running a couple of months ago. Gas is at least that old. When I attempt to start the engine it backfires. Should I start out with new gas or rebuild carb?

I would try getting some fresh gas before rebuilding the carbs but more than likely the carbs are going to need a rebuilding. If you know you're not going to use the motor for a while you should add stabilizer to the gas and make sure its run through the engine. Or you could use aviation gasoline which doesn't spoil like regualr gasoline but thats a hassle and you have to add 2 cycle oil to it because it doesn't have adequate lubrication for regular engines.

just but some stabilizer in there and u r OK

If it backfires, usually that means air is getting into the crankcase. Check your seals around the case. I have had this problem before. Engine stored for a while and crankcase slowly fills with air and this forces it to backfire.
