I posted on here last week and got a few good responses about my L Drive motor not running past 2200 rpm in gear. Today, I rebuilt the fuel pump and put new lines and a filter on it. While disassembling the pump, I noticed a gasket hanging out from behind the plate that is between the FP and the Block. This gasket is to seal up so there is adequate air pressure from the crankcase going to the FP to pump the right amount of fuel. Upon further investigation, there was a bolt missing from that plate as well, right below where the gasket was hanging out. So, I rebuilt the pump anyway, and put everything back together, installing a new bolt in the hole where one was missing. When I started the motor, it seemed to have a nice "purr" to it! It was idling a little high, but I think that was due to it getting the right amount of fuel to the carbs. The previous owner said that he raised the idle a tad because it, for some reason, had dropped. I'm guessing that it had dropped when there was an air leak at the fuel pump, thus when in gear and throttling up, the demand for fuel was higher but the pump didn't have the appropriate air pressure to move the appropriate amount of fuel! SHEW!!! I think I said it all! I have not tested this in the water yet, but that will be done this week when all the flood waters in KY recede enough to put a boat in the lake! Thanks for the help on the previous post guys!
