Yes... Oil sensor issue (I believe) (intermittent beep)

I replaced the float sensor and it still beeps, but if I short the sensor out (i.e. put in pigtail bypassing sensor and short to ground (motor)) the beeping stops.

I checked the new and old sensor by moving the float up and down on each while checking continuity. If the float is down I get continuity, which implies if the reservoir ran out of fluid, the beeping would stop?!?! Also, it implies that the magnet is still on the old sensor (but it seemed very gummy moving up and down).

If you disconnect the sensor, should the beeping stop? Is so, any idea what the problem might be?

With the tank sensor disconnected the horn should stop, if it continues the oil ump shaft has a senor on it and it may not be turning.

Shorting it should sound the alarm. Disconnecting it should stop it. Sounds like a confused oil alert module.

hope it helps

Thanks for the advice from both of you and especially confirming that shorting out the sensor should cause the alarm (not vice versa).

Tried connecting the old sensor and moved float up/down and the beeping continues regardless of position. I'm going to play a bit with that tomorrow.

I'll check the pump shaft sensor after I research a bit to find out where it is. I assume I can follow the wires from the module that the float sensor connects to.

My feeling is that if the beeping stops on shorting the sensor out, then there is a problem in the alarm module, but I will look further.

I'll post back if I find anything else.

Had it in the shop this week. The "key-up" beeeeeep - beep beep did not work in the shop and they could not reproduce the problem. They could however still get the alarm to go off if they moved the oil cap and by shorting the temperature senders.

I guess the alarm module is bad.
