I just purchased a used 1992 40 HP Evinrude. It did not come with the oil tank or hose for the VRO. I mixed oil with the gas and fired it up. I get intermittent beeping from the controls, and assume this is a low oil indicator. Should I disconnect the buzzer and go?

The best deal I can find online for a tank kit is around $150. Hate to spend that and find out that the VRO does not work.

A great motor, congratulations on your purchase.I have a 1989 model, that was rebuilt by the dealer because the VRO pump Failed. I would recommend Disconnecting the VRO and using Premix fuel.

Can I do this by simply unplugging the electrical wires?

VRO conversion w/ pump still working

if the fuel side on your Pump is still working it is very simple. unplug the 2 line harness going to the oil tank, unplug the 3 or 4 wire harness, going to the Vro pump. cut and cap the oil line going into the motor. add oil to fuel tank, mix well, then remove fuel line at top carb, catching gas in a container, pump the fuel line bulb until you get premixed gas to the carb. you can tell as it will change color. put line back on carb, and go boating.

The harness to the vro pump is sort of hard to see but it is tucked down under the pump on the right side of the motor. Disconnect it and go. The overheat sensor is a separate connection so make sure you don't disconnect that.
