I can purchase either motor for around the same money and was wondering if anyone could throw a couple of Pro's and con's at either.

Service costs and parts
ease of fixing
reliability once checked and serviced
Power comparison

Any other debate or issues I may have to consider. The engine will be mounted to a 15ft fibreglass hull that currently has a 65hp Johnson on. I use a two battery setup with lights, bilge pump, radio, plotter, fishfinder and cig lighter for a spotlight.

Would really appreciate any information, advice comments etc or indeed any threads on this subject which my search failed to return

Many thanks

Re: 1992 70hp Yamaha or 1993 60hp Johnson

If both were taken care of it is sort of a wash as both were very good engines, the Johnson is about as old as I would, much older and you get to where OMC files bancrupcy and there quality went in the tank.

It would come down to parts, which engine has the closest parts source, also you will find that there are alot more parts easier to get for the Johnson.

I really don't think you will notice the 10 extra horses, you may 2-3 more mph but not much more.

I woudl personnaly go with the Johnson just because you cna get parts for it almost anywhere.

Many thanks for your thoughts and I guess those are mine as well as I have had a Johnson 65hp that was reliable. Parts are pretty much the same to obtain and the johno is $400 less so guessit will be the Johno

Many thanks
