First item I'd check would be the fuel filter if a recent fillup was followed by poor running symptom.

what engine?
when was the tune up and what parts were installed?
I have seen them do exactly what you are describing and the distributor was cracked, actually came off in to pieces
and still running.......

No fuil filter will last a life time and if it is pluged solid dont be surprised if the fuil pump goes soon after.
If a tune up was done check the plug wires for damage.
I think the fuil filter on that car is under the master cylender mounted to the firewall.
Just a thought but shouldnt have the fuil filter been changed at the time of the tune up.

Turns out that after letting it sit overnight, it is running ok now, maybe water in fuel, the engine is a 2.2 liter, bought the car from a freind of mine fuel filter was changed not that long ago, like i said after it sitting all night started right up in morning and ran fine all day, must have been water in fuel i put two can of dry gas in it! Thanks for all suggestions !

So do you really think it is fine now???? I never heard of a car fixing itself. What you got was a warning that something is going bad and now is the time to figure out what it is because next time it will be worse. When was the last full tune up??? when was the timing belt changed if ever?? Sure no one likes doing preventative maintenance because "it aint broke" but you will save yourself a bunch of money if you fix a problem before it completely fails.Charlie

I know it sounds strange but it must have had water in it running for two days now and it runs good, prior to purchasing the car appox 3 months ago it had complete tune-up also timing belt was replaced has 125 k miles, going to put gas in it tomorrow, and see, as of now it runs good!

I had an old Mustang that acted similar, my suggestion is to closely inspect the distributor cap. Mine had a small crack that would allow moisture in, but only on occassion . Once I replaced it I had no further problems.
