Hello, I have a 1992 Force 40HP motor. If I turn the key, the motor will turn. If I engage the choke solenoid, the choke will engage. However, if I do both at the same time, the choke will engage, but the motor will not turn. I hear a one time sound as the starter tries to engage, but it won't turn. My battery terminals are clean. I tried individually running a positive and negative to the motor using a jumper cable to ensure that it's not the main power cables. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: 1992 Force 40HP starting problem

Tried the wd-40 without any luck. When I get the chance, I will try and hotwire it before changing out the ignition switch to prove if that's the problem. It's possible that the mechanical connection does not allow enough current to flow to the choke solenoid only when the ignition switch is in the starting position.
