I took my new little 14 foot fishing boat to the lake yesterday. Put fresh gas 50:1 in the tank and fired it up. Starting is a little sketchy as it does not seem to want to idle down. Motor revs out ok in the neutral position but stalls almost the second you put it in a gear. I did end up getting it to go, but it had to be held wide open. It would only go maybe 4-5 mph at best, and and letting off the gas any amount it stalled out. So question is, where do I start to get this power house going? The gas is fresh and the plug looks ok? Am I expecting to much from a 4 horse? Its just plain jane 14 aluminum boat with me 175 pounds and a 11 year old kid. Shouldnt it at least get up on a plane? Any help here is welcomed.

well I tore into the carb today and it looked ok. But one of the jets had some white calcium, looking stuff on it. In any case I cleaned all the nooks and crannys and put her back together. It is running 100% better. The idle is cleaned up and it shifts in and out of gear without stalling. The only complaint is when its reved out the top end sounds kinda loaded up. Can someone please give me the plug gap for this motor? I will try a new plug tomorrow when I toss it on the lake for another try out.

Ok, put it in the water and still not fixed It idles ok now but still sounds choppy when it free revs. Sounds like its not reaching max RPM. Still stalling out when put in gear in the water. I am at a loss. Carb is clean, fuel is fresh, plug is new. I tested the compression and get 125 psi. anybody????
