I wish I could find someone who worked in the place 5 minutes away from me. They make all the stuff they send to the place I get mine from and got to pay shipping at a rape rate. Geeze just let me drive and pick it up. I will pay for the materials. It doesnt have to make the 3000 mile round trip first.
Haha kcassells I'll start the underground fiberglass black market. No kidding chevymaher, I'm sure you've called and asked if you could pick it up? Taking a break for a bit after a few hours of grinding this morning. All the wood except the last 2" of stringers, transom, and deck tabbing are out. I've been grinding the fiberglass lips down with the cut off wheel and working on sanding down the first storage compartment area. I stumbled upon something that really had me concerned, and made me think I almost ground down too far. It appears there's another piece of wood under the long runner that I'm curious as how to approach it, you'll see in the attached pictures. I may just avoid that area for the rest of the day and work my way back behind it.
Take your time get the tools you feel comfortable with and remove it. You can put wood back or just fill it with pb for those strakes. Multi tool/ocilatting tool might help here.
Oh yes I have it is a big mafia deal for sure. I got a nice woman who would talk to me at the place making it. She looked and they do supply them and ship to them. Problem is I got to get them to admit it is where they are getting it. And send the place a okay for me to just pick it up there instead of shipping it to them and them repacking it to ship it back to me.
Lets get this straight guys. I do know where your getting it. They will not sell it directly to me. So I can't get it cheaper missing you as the middle man. You'll get your money just for just for handling it. So your not loosing money. Just let me pick it up. Your not making money on the shipping or are you?
I know where it is sitting even. Bolt cutters and I got all I want. It is a scam and a joke how they do it. This stuff is so cheap if you get it from the place making it.
But due to company policy I cannot buy it direct because I do not have a distributors licence with them.
It really does stink chevymaher, I'm lucky enough to have the place in Charleston but it's still 4 hour drive. Their prices are comparable to USC though, if not a little bit cheaper.
Finished for the day on grinding and man it feels good. I made more progress than I thought I would, but I was frustrated to run into that extra wood UNDER the other wood support. I was praying I would hit a spot that wasn't wet/rotted but I made it all the way up to the deck and it was still wet. I just hate having to pull the U bolt to get it out, which means I'll have to put something back to support it. I'll have another 6 hours or so tomorrow at it, and I'm hoping to pull the transom wood by the end of it after I finish grinding.
Your getting there nice work. Yea I am over it I got to have it they know it and i know it. On the other hand if I ever decide to do alot of this work. I got a connection now just get the licence.
Thanks man, with only needing 10-15 gallons of resin it should be an easy buy in Charleston. I’ve joked around with a few people about starting up a business in the area once I finish since no one within 50 miles does anything like this and charges out the wazoo lol. I’m just trying to get this prep work done so I can move on to “phase two” of taking measurements, getting the wood cut/prepped etc.
lol Was thinking of pulling the carb off my 40 today, but since it was 1 F when I got up I figured it can wait. Warmed up my little workshop enough that I could finish building some new motorized rod turners for my next fishing rod build.
Officially done for the day, and my back is feeling it for sure. Overall pleased with getting to the "good stuff", but there's still a few parts I want to go back through this week and clean up.
Oh I hear you mine looked like a garbage scow at that point to. Actually found live worms in the wood LOL. Sorry for disturbing your natural habitat pal.
But once it start going together. The new in there it is a sight for sore eyes.
Finished an hour of grinding this afternoon, and honestly I feel like there isn’t much left to grind at this point lol. There’s a couple areas that aren’t exactly perfect, but it’s all smooth and contoured in areas that will be getting more fiberglass. I’d really like to get this transom out, then I can go ahead and get moving to the next step.
I wanted to get an opinion on an idea I had as far as the glassing goes. I’m planning on using 1808 since I can pick it up for free as far as the tabbing and stringers go, but I wanted to see what you all thought about just doing everything with it (deck included)?
Deck would be a little rough with that weave. Can be used, can top it off with 600 or something else to get the smooth. I'm throwing on 1700 then some 6 over that maybe. Might roll some rubber to lay on top but my boat gonna be geared for fishin not skiing.
