Hi,
I am purchasing a used 1993 Johnson 20 HP electric and picking it up this weekend and I wonder if anyone has any pictures of how the teleflex steering hooks up to the motor.

Also the control box is left handed and I want to know if that is reversable to right hand and how to do it.

Re: 1993 Johnson Steering question

the 93 20hp has the tilt tube connection, and you need the correct connecting rod from cable end to motor. the control should mount on the starboard side of the boat.

yes it is a single lever.

Is there an arm or something on the motor that link connects up to?
from the picture it looks like that area has a big carry handle

Re: 1993 Johnson Steering question

Thank you for the picture it cleared everything up

I have a link arm, but it is not staright, it has several bends in it, It came off an old 70 hp merc.

I guess the motor must have a place to attach that arm to.

Is the control box reversable?

Can you confirm that the remote control box cannot be reversed from a left hand box to a right hand box

The handle should be reversable.

Remove the box from the boat, if it is attached, and look on the back side. You should see where the handle can be bolted onto the shaft.

The handle just unbolts, in the center. It has one bolt throgh the center and then just pops off. Put it on the other side of the box. If you are going to mount it that way, you will need a spacer between the box and wherever you mount it for clearance for the handle.

Ok, in the florida cold, it is cold here today. i ventured out to the scrap pile. looking at a control i have there, i say yes it can be changed. you may have to relocate the emergeny kill switch. Remove the center screw, then the handle will come off, and reverse, is my thinking.

yes, remove the screw and handle and move to other side. will have to relocate kill switch, which is no big deal.

Thank you very much, I guess it will need some cleaning, lubricating and a little paint too.
