1993 Mercury 8, Neutral Low speed Idle quits, Forward & Reverse work just fine

In neutral Low speed Idle quits, Forward & Reverse work just fine. OB has been reworked twice by mechanics and problem persists. Last OB mechanic said that a "U" shape arm in the idle assembly (?) needs to be replaced. However, I have been waiting since last August (2003). Either he forgets or else his excuses work better than he does or the part may be hard to find for this "low volume production" OB.

I have a manual, and the part appears to be the "Primer lever"; however the symptoms for a bad prinmer lever don't match my observation. The engine "tends" to flood if I over choke it, and the "Idle Speed" is unchanged by turning the Idle Speed Knob. And, as stated, once in Forward gear I can get my 10 foot dinghy up on plane with no problem and my fat butt (215 lbs).

I have a "long past" background in Auto engine (Gas & Diesel) hobbyist expertise. Is this part difficult to replace and if known; to aquire from some Merc parts supplier ?

TIA

(advTHANKSance)

Bob
