Hi,
Can someone provide an answer regarding intermitent pee hole for 200HP 2.5L?
Brief history: 1 month ago I used my boat in perfect conditions. Suddenly, last weekend I started the engine and I found intermitent pee hole and engine overheat alarm.
Later on saturday, I replaced the impeller.
On sunday, I started the engine, the temperature now is good (no overhating) but pee hole keep intermitent at idle...
Why pee hole keep intermitent at idle? (No overheating)
Thanks for your time on this question...
Regards

Thanks Gary,

I will check the tats, but I thinks that they are good...the engine works good at WOT and idle...At 2000rpm´s the peel hole works good...the problem is only at idle...(750rpm´s) Any time I can touch both engine head with my hands for 3 seconds...so the engine is working with good temperature.
This wekend I will take another ride ans still checking.
Thanks

The intermintency of the tell tale is the tstat opening and closing. Now that you have a new waterpump you are probably pumping more water than with the older pump and consequently the engine is cooling quicker. So when the engine warms up the tstats open and then the cooling water cools it enough for the tstats to close again. Like you said this only happens at idle, but at 2000 RPMs it doesn't because running at 2000 RPMs the engine will always be warm enough to keep the tstats open.

IMHO: I would replace the tstats anyways while you are performing maintenance on the cooling system. You might want to change out the poppet valve, diaphragm, ect. while you are at.

i removed my thermostats and replaced them with stainless washers. any merc dealer will have the right size thermos. the opening is just enough so that it provides the propper amount of water pressure and coolant flow, but it prevents the possibilty of your thermostats clogging or going bad.
