Thanks in advance for help
I have a 1994 40HP Force (by Mercury Marine) with trim/tilt.
Could someone tell me the proper way to drain, refill the fluid, and bleed the air from the trim/tilt unit?
I have also read where I can use Dextron AT fluid in trim/tilt, is this true?
Thanks

unless you left off the filler plug and a lot of water got into your system then nothing good can come from the flush & fill. Just top off fluid per manual. When it breaks, then get it rebuilt. Should be a single ram with oildyne pump. with is a relatively easy rebuild. So top it of and use it until it dies.

look at existing fluid. if it is tan then use hydraulic oil. The good stuff comes in 5-50 gallon drums so you may have to use jack oil from auto-boys. If the existing fluid is pink then use the exact ATF recommended in your owners or shop manual. Raise the engine fully. remove filler plug. squirt fluid in with katsup bottle. replace plug. run down then back up. remove plug and repeat process until the oil is fairly close to same level every time.
