Mercury online parts diagram shows three items, #57, #58 & #68, between the Thrust Washer(#64) and Anode Kit(#56A) that are missing from my unit. In addition, I have a Lockwasher between Washer(#65) and the prop that is NOT shown on the diagram or listed in parts list. Do I have a real problem or is Mercury Parts System screwed up? NOTE: Since boat was new, have always had significant "clank" when shifting into reverse and sometimes engines stalls. Is all this related or separate issues? Thanks for any help!

Merc has lots of pages, how about a link to the one you are giving all the item numbers for.

Even with a part number of the anode a person could find the page you are looking at.

Remember one thing when viewing the parts pages. They are part breakdown drawings, not assembly drawing for putting it back together. That is what the service manuals are for.
That lock washer #68 goes like this:

If you need to look at a Merc manual, here is a free online one to look at, download, or print if you want.

Thanks Don S for the great info and reference! Any comments about the clanking noise when shifting into reverse accompanied by occasional engine stalling?

The clanking may be to high an idle speed. The stalling may be due to a faulty lower shift cable. Pull the drive, disconnect the shift cable and check for smoothness. ANY binding will be amplified by pressure from the drive and cause your stalling by holding the shift interrupt switch closed too long.

Thanks to Don S for great input. Pulling the drive may be beyond my skill and tool sets.

Hey Don,
I went to the link and all I got was only 2 pages. Am I doing something wrong? Would really like to study up on mine. Alpha one is what I have on my VIP
Thanks in advance for the help.

If you found the second page (Index) just click on the red box on the section you want to view (left side of the screen) Some are fairly large and may take a while to load, even with DSL.
