I'm rebuilding my 94' Mercury Sport Jet 90HP engine. 3 cylinder, 2 cycle.

I'm putting in new pistons / rings. Now I know you have to hone the cylinders to de-glaze them........ but how far do I go and when do I know when they have been de-glazed properly?

Thanks!

they will be nice and shiny dont go to far or you will need oversize rings and pistons if it only lightly glazed you should be ok

The cylinders have been honed. They aren't nice and shiny, more of a stainless steel look now........... yet still a little shiny........... but not smooth like a chrome finish shiny any more.......

Cylinders are smooth, no burs, gouges, or anything.......... Thru it in my parts cleaner to clean it up........

When putting the pistons / rings back in, is there any special lube to use to help set the piston rings better?
