I have found a good deal on a boat, motor and trailer. The motor is a 25 HP Evinrude, PULL START. Any idea on how much to have a shop convert it to Electric Start? Is this something I could do my self? Is a conversion kit expensive? Thanks for any replies. Your replies will probably determine if I buy this boat. It has been sitting for several months and started on the first pull, but I know that will not last. I am getting too old to be pull starting a motor.

It can be converted, Glenn.

You need the starter assembly and a new wiring harness. Not sure, but you may need a new flywheel as well.

Long shot you may be able to find them used at tcoutboard.com.

They wont be cheap from a dealer.

Glen,
I have a 1990 30HP Johnson pull start. I bought it used in 2001. It started 1st or 2nd pull then and still does. I too, would like electric start, but to go the new route, I would be looking at $500.00 plus. That's more than the motor is worth. Have not had any luck on e-bay. In reality it is not that hard to start, and from my experiance and what I've heard and read is a very good engine. Good luck!

glenn, properly tuned and maintained it will. i have a 1955 15hp rude on a 1960 Lonestar, starts 2nd pull every time, and it's a lot harder to pull than that new 25.
