Hi? how can i or what do i need to do to increase my engine horse power/performance to increase my power and speed.

all ideas are welcome. thanks

First thing that you need to find out is if you have the right prop on your boat, and we need to know what prop you are running with the size/type of boat you have the motor hung on. Many times, it's just a matter of setting the motor up properly to see noticeable gains.

Motor running right?Do a compression/spark test.
What RPM's are you running at WOT.That motor should run about 53-5500 rpm at wot.
An overloaded boat will hurt performance.
3 adults,2 kids,a dog,2 coolers and all the equipment and a full tank of gas.That might be too much.
Figure out the rpm question and post your results.Without that we can't really do much.
Some times a prop change can make a difference.
If your looking for a BIG jump in speed you need to do a big jump in horesepower.A 120hp, there isin't much you can do to make a lot more speed.Lighten your load,carry a half tank of fuel unless you use a lot.

There is not much you can do to increase performance. Aftermarket reeds such as Boyeson (about $150) may add a bit. You can try "porting" the engine for better bypass and exhaust gas flow and thus more Horsepower but that requires disassembling the engine and a steady hand.

BY FAR, if you are currently using an aluminum prop, switching to stainless in the same size will give about 200-400 RPM and about 2 MPH more. Before buying stainless, experiment with aluminum props for cost saving.

Try adjusting the engine height on the transom. Raise it about one inch so that the cavitation plate is about one inch above the vee in the hull. That usually gives a little speed, but too high and she will ventilate and cavitate, especially on turns.

HOWEVER: Keep in mind that a 5 MPH increase in speed will require about 35-40 horsepower extra and that just is not easily obtained with these engines.

Recommendation: Try and find a good used Force 5 cylinder 150.

On the side or end there are numbers stamped there.We need them.
I don't think I ever saw a 4 blade for a Force.J

On the end or side of the prop.Should be a # stammped in it.
You have a tach?
No tach,get a tiny tach.Hook it up and go for a ride.Run at wot trim it so it runs as fast as it will go,and see what the tack reads.
1-2 people in the boat 1/2 tank of gas maybe a cooler.
Don't overload.
You should run about 5300-5500 at wot.
