1995 johnson 175hp 60 degree optical, For some reason I am only getting fire on my number one cylinder. Changed Pack, trigger,Stator, voltage rectifier, ignition switch, and coils. Did voltage test on pack and only getting 6.5 volts on yellow/red wire. When I disconnect yellow/red wire from solenoid it has 12volts at pack. I just changed solenoid because I thought it was bad. When hooked to solenoid again back to 6.5 at pack. Is this correct thanks!

Thanks for the reply. All the ignition parts are new funny part is that when it is hot outside it will start and spark on all cylinders then drop all cylinders except one after 5min. When under 55 degrees outside only fires on #1 cylinder and pops but wont start. I think my problem is something to do with the pack not recieving 12 volts while cranking, only get 6.5 on the red/yellow wire coming from solenoid.

No, it is not correct if tested while cranking as instructed.

Download the CDI Troubleshooting Guide. Instructions for your engine begin on page 51.

The guide is a large pdf file so right mouse and save the file to your drive will be faster. http://cdielectronics.com/Downloads/tabid/55/language/en-US/Default.aspx

thanks! I just found something I never saw before. Only Fires on #1 Cylinder: check the optical sensor to encoder wheel mesh. You may need to shim the optical sensor to make it engage the encoder wheel deeper.

The yellow/red wire should only be hot when key is in starting position, if voltage is dropping that low you have a bad connection. Check the engine wire harness that connects to the control harness. The connector with yellor/black wire, sometimes this wire will arc to black wire inside the connector. check all red wire connectings from battery to switch. The new switch may also be the problem.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone that helped with my problem. Boat starts like a Champ now! Shimmed the optical sensor up about 1/10 inch and starts and fires on every cylinder since. And working out a few little kinks with the electrical. How good it is to hear a motor run that has not run in three months!

thanks!
