My carbeurated, oil injected 200 hp Yamaha has just started idling a little rough. When it idles you can hear it sputter or
spit once in a while. I changed the plugs with new NGK's but it made no difference. I think it may be a bad coil but not sure.
Does any one have any ideas how to narrow it down to which one or any other ideas? Thanks Double D

Have you checked to be sure it's not a fuel issue?

The spit you are referring to maybe what is called a lean sneeze due to plugging pilot/idle jet or passages.
Probably need to pull and clean carbs and link and sync as service manual states after reinstalling carbs

I do not think it is a fuel issue because I have twin 200 hp outboards on my Grady White port motor runs fine.
I changed the seperators and filters every spring.

Is there an easy way to rule out electrical problems before I pull the carbs?

yes all of the electrical can be tested with the proper test equipment and procedures, follow procedures in your Yamaha service manual
