Neighbor has a '95 60 HP Evinrude. It has electric start and injection oil. The last couple of times he used it he had trouble starting once he left the dock and had to tow it in. After sitting afew days he tried it and it starts and runs fine. Next time he uses it it starts and runs fine and for half the day and then does not start. He says the warning buzzer for the oiler has at times (since he bought it) sounded and he would pump the oil bulb or button on the oil tank and the buzzer would stop (not out of oil, just not getting enough until the bulb or button is pumped. Where should he start looking??? Thanks for any help

Re: 1995 60HP Evinrude Not starting all the time

It's been along time since I read my owners manual for my '93 60TLET.

But, I think the warning buzzer (actually, an electronic tone) not sounding means that the VRO oil system is not doing it's job.. In other words, when the key is turned to the on position before engaging the starter, a soft audible beep should be heard to indicate the VRO system is working correctly.

Maybe it is not starting because the system management is not letting the engine start in order to protect the power head...???

I'm guessing..... of course..

Yes ultane that's what I was thinking. What pumps the oil, is it a seperate pump or is it pumped with the fuel? He says he has pulled the plugs when it doesn't start and it seems very dry inside. Thanks
