My friend has twin 70 evinrudes on the back of his sea cat, one of them over heated a couple of days ago, the horn never went off, compression was 120 on all cylinders when I checked them a few months ago, after over heat they are 75, 90, 120...I have removed the head, (pain in the butt, the 4 middle bolts snapped, had to drill and retap) head at machine shop for resurface.
I found a couple of wires that had been very slightly melted, other that that engine looks ok, I ordered new impellers and thermostats/gaskets for both motors, a new head gasket for the one and a new temp sensor. pistons looked ok. any other suggestions on what to check/replace????

Backflush it to make certain there are no blockages

Yes, re check compression with the new head gasket as well. Check the by pass tubes as well while the head is off.
