Hello, all. I have a 1995 Evinrude 9.9 Four Stoke LS on my pontoon and am having problems with the throttle control box alarm going off and the outboard shutting down. This has only happened twice. I have to wait about thirty seconds then it starts right up and will run just fine the rest of the day. While the outboard is in gear the outboard pumps water just fine. The water feels just luke warm and not hot. I feel all around the head of the motor and it doesn't feel hot at all. One thing I did notice is while in neutral, sometimes, the motor will only pump steam out of the tattle tail. Could the alarm be going off because the outboard is overheating? Should I go ahead and have the impeller replaced and/or the thermostat? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Sounds like your over heating for sure. you can pump water and the pump could be bad.

Thanks for the response. Is this something I can do myself? I'm fairly mechanically inclined and I do have the repair manual for this particular outboard. Where can I get the parts online?

Water pump repair is a pretty easy task if you have the OEM manual....2 hour job tops the first time...after that a breeze....I prefer the OMC pump kits over the Sierra or mallory....Crowley marine will have the kits...online....
