I removed the lower unit off my motor.I put the motor in the down position.Went to reinstall the lower unit, motor will not go up.I loosened the relief screw, the motor moves about 2 in..Try to trim it up and lift at the same and it sounds like the trim motor is dead heading.any ideas. thanks

Obstruction in the splashwell? Trim piston and metal plate/receiver not aligned?

That happened to my previous 1996 Force 120 - after I changed its lower unit impeller gear. To resolve, I had my wife climb into the boat and as I "gently" tried to push its lower end upwards, she took its shifter control handle and moved its back and forth very slowly. Must move back and forth with its gears engage (re: Not only moving its throttle position). When she moved the control handle back and forth 3" (or so), its upper gear aligned up perfectly. Lower unit slipped back on (upwards) like a grease inner rubber glove. Remember to gently push upwards as re-aligned of upper spindle gears is done. Brute force will break something (that isn't properly lined up).

Hope this helps.

So if I am reading the original post correctly the problem is with the Tilt and Trim unit not bringing up the engine. Is this correct? Is the motor making any sound like it is running or making a humming sound? If not then check the ckt breaker inside the engine it might have tripped.

Yes .The problem is with the tilt and trim. The motor runs at the same pitch as it always had. Up and down.It seems like the hydraulic cylinder is being bypassed. Is there such thing as "passed down". Can the cylinder be locked somehow because the lower unit is not on the motor?I've worked on boats for years and never run into something like this before.

Can you post a pic of the T&T unit. They do come in different styles. There's one with a bypass screw and there are those without.
