Hi Guys, Anyone got any info on this motor I aquired over the winter. It is a 1995 70hp Force by Mercury (on cowling) seriel number OE109170. Heard and read this motor was actually one of the best motors force put out. Opions? Also after testing cause of no fire to any of the 3 cylinders. My mechanic read out a bunch of ohm readings and such to me but said looked like the stator was bad, that we need to replace it. So I have been online trying to find the lowest price available, but wow I am getting confused big time. why is there a 9v or 16v, why isn't it the same. Also the part numbers he gave me was
174-2075-K2 which is actually a mercury stator not force, also he said the old one (at lake) had 2 green and 2red wires coming out, now they all have yellows and greens? Also it is a regulator motor not rectifier. There is just so many replacement numbers so I get lost. Any opions would help greatly, Thanks Greg

Re: 1995 force 70hp Motor info stator question

Testing the stator is all well and good, BUT: With no spark on ALL three cylinders, the first thing to look at is the kill switch. Is the clip in place?

Disconnect the black with yellow trace wire at the engine terminal board near the starter and see if there is now spark. If there is, the problem is either in the ignition switch or the kill switch.

Best engine Force ever made? Ehh-- I will admit that they do perform rather well for an engine using a 10 inch prop and they do have a Mercury designed lower unit so you can use Merc props. The couple I have worked on did impress me and the Merc ignition is better than the old Prestolite that early Force engines used.

However, they are the basic Chrysler/Force three cylinder engine with a different manifold and a single large carb. Thus they are no better or worse engine design-wise than the Force 75 and 90

Thanks Frank, will ask him tomorrow if he checked that, I know we started with the kill switch at helm and then back at motor. Also what is the difference in the 9v and 16v and how do i know what i got. So any idea which stator goes on this motor?

Re: 1995 force 70hp Motor info stator question

Thanks Frank, After many hours of reasearch and calls to CDI. The replacement stator is the 8778 or 9710 for this motor not the 2075. But happen to get call tonight from my mechanic saying he found a stator, trigger and coils for sale off a 1995 Force 90hp. Will these be interchangeable, from what I read they will, but i will be going from 16a to 9a. Thanks Greg
