I have a 1995 Merc. Force 15 h.p. Serial # OE116173 kicker on my boat. It has not ran in 4 years and it only had about 10 hours on it when it was put in my basement. Started it up last year and it ran and idled like a champ, I was impressed. Took it out on the lake and it started to overheat. It was spitting some water but it did not seem like enough. Changed the impeller and it is still overheating. I am thinking the thermostat, but I can't find a kit. Any ideas on where to find the parts or what else could be the overheating problem? I don't think the head\gaset as it still runs and idles perfectly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

try crowleys.com, marineengine.com, your local mercury shop. I think it is part number 819550

Re: 1995 Force Thermostat parts

Does anyone think it could be something else? After replacing the impeller, I am open for suggestions.

Re: 1995 Force Thermostat parts

I would boil the thermostat to be sure it opens before worrying about something else.
Also, are you sure the impeller is installed correctly?
Not sure about your motor but mine had a little keyway that would have been real easy to forget.

I would think it would spit a lot more water after the impeller change. This water just gets warm when the thermostat opens (I think).

I will give it a try. The impeller is in correctly, and flow did increase, but it is still overheating. That is why I am curious about the thermostat opening. This one seems to be difficult to change or check as it is going to require a gasket kit for the cover plate. Thanks again for the suggestions.

I wonder if you could just use the blue permatex instead of a gasket.

I did a quick search and it looks like the gasket (#819669) is obsolete.

You could try the silicone???
But if your gonna go through the trouble to take it off.
Go through the trouble and make a gasket.
Almost every auto parts store has gasket material.
If your real lucky/careful you might get the old off and use it as a template.
Sillycone, might just blow out.
