I have a '95 115 Johnson Ocean Runner that I now can not get into gear. The shifter on the console is totally frozen. The shifter has no identifying marks other than and OMC sticker on the shifter handle. I took the cover of and the throttle controls still work I just can't get the shifter unstuck.

Question 1
Anyone have any idea what may have caused this - It was functioning fine before.

Question 2
Any idea what make/model this shifter maybe - it is on a 1995 Stratos Sportsman 2100 center console?

Question 3
If you do know what type of shifter this is, any idea where I can get a diagram for it?

I know I may be grabbing at air with some of these questions, but any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Matt

Re: 1995 Johnson Ocean Runner Control Problem

Is this a TWO lever control?

Is the throttle lever fully seated to the idle side?

There is an interlock that will not allow the motor to be shifted into gear while the throttle is anywhere by full closed.

If the throttle cable has stretch enough or been adjusted at the motor such that the throttle lever cannot seat fully, then the interlock is still in the way of the shift lever movement.

Re: 1995 Johnson Ocean Runner Control Problem

It is a one lever control, and it is fully seated in idle. Where exactly is this interlock? Do I need to adjust the throttle cable to allow the interlock to open?

Thanks,

Matt

Re: 1995 Johnson Ocean Runner Control Problem

I'd disconnect the cables at the engine end and see whats what.
Lay the cable out if possible,

it might just be corruded up, they're quite cheap to replace.
I think I paid $30 for both on ebay, 16 feet long for my CC.

Have you tried operating just the throttle by pulling the control arm out, away from the base?

Re: 1995 Johnson Ocean Runner Control Problem

I took the housing off of the remote control and unbolted the throttle disk and cable. It appears to funtion fine. I'll try to take the cables off at the motor to see if that is the issue, but it appears to be bound pretty tight in the control mechanism itself.
