1995 mariner 75hp water leaking around shift shaft

Hello all...I have a 1995 mariner 75hp,i just replaced the impeller and hooked up the muffs and started the motor...i noticed some water coming out around the shift shaft...ive never noticed this before...is this normal or did i miss something? Thanks! Troy

Could 2 things, one bad, one normal.

Could be excess water pushing out the shaft hole. ok.

Could be the water tube is not seated and the water is not reaching the powerhead to cool it.

Is water coming out the telltale?

Safest thing to do is to drop the gearcase a little, and confirm that the water tube is seated.

Thanks!!! I do have a good strong stream coming from the telltale so i believe i should be ok then.

Just keep an eye on it the first time you take her out.
Check for overheating a few times in the first 15 minutes.

Took it out...telltale kept strong stream the whole time...
