1995 Mercury XRi EFI Question

I have a question that I need answered. I'm not a motor guru by any means. I'm told that this model is EFI and has a carburetor (???). The motor runs great when it's running, sometimes it's little sluggish coming out of the hole. Once it's on top, it runs great. The problem is you have to "cold start" it almost every time to get it to fire which causes quite a bit of smoke. After doing that for several times on the water running between fishing holes, it will "flood" and leave you on the water (more than once). Any suggestions on the problem? I'm told I may need to boil the carb and have the injectors cleaned. Does this sound right?

Re: 1995 Mercury XRi EFI Question

If you have a XRi it is a fuel injected engine, thus the EFI designation, it does not have a carb. Take off the cowl, right in front of you it should say,"Digital Fuel Injection", if it does not, you will have to go by the serial # to find out what you really have. It does have something like a throtle body for air intake. Good Luck, Joe
