Re: 1995 Monterey 225 SCR restore

For some reason there is a 1/2 inch X 8 inch piece of wood running lengthwise that is glassed over, maybe this served as a stringer since there were no real stringers in the boat....just a bunch of bulkheads....debating on removing this and putting real stringers in.

How did the foam underneath the fuel tank look? Is the bottom of your fuel tank ok? The reason I ask, my 1989 Monterey 1900 had a soft spot. When the deck was torn out, we smelled fuel. The foam was wet and apparently ate a bunch of tiny holes in the 40 gallon fuel tank. It cost me $500 for a custom made fuel tank. Just curious...

I agree. I noticed your using 40 grit flap disc. It will go much faster with 24 grit. I found a great source for good quality disc cheap and shipped fast! Lehigh Valley Abrasives - Premium abrasives and tools at value prices
4-1/2 Zirconia flap wheels $1.89
4-1/2 Resin fiber disc aluminum oxide $.50
4-1/2 Resin fiber disc Zirconia $.57

Re: 1995 Monterey 225 SCR restore

There was no foam under the tank or fuel smell when i removed everything. The tank looks fine visually and thanks for the heads up... i will pressure check the tank to be sure. most of the foam that was in the boat was water-logged as well as the wood tho

The culprit of my idle issues... or should i say the bad fuel that was in the tank.
