ok evinrude guys i have a problem with my power tilt/trim.first i will start off with all though my tag on motor states its a 1995 i think the tilt/trim is off a diff year and maybe a diff hp.

If you look at the parts diagram for [hydrolic assembly] for my motor [model# E88TSLEOC] ther are some big plugs [#57 & #60] which # 60 is top right of hydrolic assembly,it shows 2 of #60 on back side and 1 on the front side.it shows #57 to be on the right side as viewing it on diagram.

Heres my delima, mine also has a #57 or 60 on the far left corner of where the diagram shows the #60's.if u look at the parts list it states this unit has 3 #60's and 1 #57,my unit however has an extra 57 0r 60 and for the life of me i cant figure this out.i noticed it while replacing the seals im my power tilt/trim,ive looked at all years of 88-112hp motors with power trim and none of them have this xtra plug/valve....and now am wondering if i even got the proper seal/o-ring kit?

heres the other problem,my power trim/tilt works great while going up but in the down possition is a diff story.if i have motor all the way up and trim it down the trim motor runs but outboard goes real slow, like power tilt/trim is not pulling it down.it will free fall ultill it catches up with where i stopped.once it gets to the 2 short trim cylinders it works just as supposed to.

trim motor runs but motor free falls instead of trim motor pulling motor down, goes up just fine.

ok so i figured out my 1995 rude 88 spl has a power trim/tilt off of an 1985 115 hp motor, any idea of what it wrong with tilt/trim and what would cause it not to work properly in the down possition?

Might try some fresh grease through the fittings on the tilt tube.

Having said that mine has fresh grease but does the same thing. If'n I trim it fully up I have to go back'n shove on the motor a second or two after I start trimming it back down. Then yes it sorta 'freefalls', but after that everything's wonderful again ...

My theory is when the motor is trimmed all the way up the center of gravity is fwd of the transom. That and I'm not entirely sure these units were designed to pull, vs push. Think the mass/thrust of the motor's 'posed to do most of the the 'pulling'?

mine has always pulled down since ive owned it the past 5 years, just started doing this mid summer last year.these units if i read right are self bleeding of air,am i wrong?ive tried everything to get the air out and every time i take the fill plug out it has alot of air preasure/foaming fluid that comes out.any takes on what may be going on here?
