This is my second post about the same problem. I will list what we tried to do to fix it...

1995 Saltwater Series Yamaha 200 runs rough in gear at low rpms and again at 3500+ rpms. It runs perfect out of gear, it runs great at 3300 rpms. As soon as I try to pass 3500 it starts shaking real bad.

We changed the plugs, fuel filters, rebuilt the carbs, checked the fuel pump. Problem still exists. The prop was loose so we tightened it, but still a problem. The flywheel seems fine.

What is next?
This motor does tend to cavitate because of a bubble stream from the transducer. I am starting to wonder if the cavitation finally caught up to the motor?

Compression was perfect, voltage in the coils were perfect...

The symptoms are of a fuel resriction. Start at the tank and go forward until it is found and fixed. The other suspect would be the prop itself. If it is out of shape or balance, it can cause these symptoms. Not sure how the prop got loose unless you have the wrong thrust washer and it has worn down.

The prop was loose. We tightned it and the problem persists. I will keep checking into the fuel, but then why does it run smooth out of gear in idle and high rpms and only run rough in gear at low rpms and high rpms.

Yuck! Miniseason is coming and I may still be out of commision.

Put the motor in neutral with the kill switch pulled and rotate the prop, look for damage to the blades or uneven rotation where the prop has been bent or the prop shaft is not straight. Many time fuel system problems don't show until the motor is under a load.

What about the stator? This motor is a little noiser than the other one. I was told a long time ago that the alternator seemed loud on that engine. I was also told yesterday that the problem could be related to the stator or the computer?

Thanks for the feedback so far!

Any engine will rev like crazy with no load on it, regardless whether it is in a good state of tune or not.

When it revs in neutral, the motors runs very smoothly. When it is in gear is when it gets wild.

have you checked gas tank vent, or possible water or bad oil in engine storage tank

Put in stable or other similar gas treatment moisture remover. I get the same problem in florida all the time and it is always the same problem, moisture in the gas. It idles and runs great till you put it in gear undeer load.
