I have a 130 hp 96 evinrude that is caused some concern on the last fishing trip. Ran out about two miles initially trolled for about one hour motor acted fine stalled once as we were trolling as slow as possible. As we decided to head back in we opened her up for about one mile and the control box alarm went off and the motors RPM's dropped. I shut it down and started fine, I then proceeded to take it slow back to the Launch. I am planning on changing the impeller.

I have taken it to two different marine mechanics and recieved two different diagnosis. One stated it was shot the second said it was fine and to get out on the water. This was before I took it out and had the engine trouble. I am guessing the engine over heated and possible the new impeller will help cool it? Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards

Why did the mechanic say it was shot?
what are the compression numbers.?
Do you have a spark GAP tester, $12 from autozone.
Spark must jump 3/8th inch gap, not a sparkplug gap.

The overheat and fuel restriction alarm are the same .
But continuous tone at or near full throttle says fuel problem to me, did you feel the cyl heads?

If compression is way off it might be a waste of money to buy parts until that original problem is fixed.
