Original owner, no problem what so ever until this year. First time out this year ran great for 15 min., then completely died out, stopped dead.
Temp. alarm was going off, would restart, ran very rough. Started off replacing water pump, was circulating water but wouldn't keep running. I then rebuilt fuel pump and it ran smoother but not quite up to snuff.
I then decided to check compression: #1 cylinder ran 30, other two read 130. Found my problem! Hoping for the best, decided to decarb as mentioned on this site. #1 cylinder came up to 120, other two remained at 130.
I want to thank everyone who contributes to this forum. Wouldn't have know where to start w/o it.

That is a remarkable come back on the compression tatertot.
Glad it worked for you.
You probably had a stuck piston ring.
You are lucky you unstuck it before it broke and tore up the head or cylinder wall.

Good job.
Make sure you do it once a year to keep it running well.

Happy boating.

Thanks Roscoe. Should I decarb my Yamaha 9.9
4-stroke also? It is 4 yrs. old and running great. Is it done the same way as my Force?

9.9 likely won't benefit much, if at all, being a 4 stroke.

I would just put some Seafoam in the gas and let it clean out the fuel system.
