I know in a recent post i had stated that i had a 1986 DT 140, due to fat fingers i accidentally hit the wrong number and didnt catch it till just now....sorry. This is my situation, I have a 1996 DT140 with a 13 pitch prop( i think) on a 17' Glasstream bass boat. I can get right at 55mph out of it at about 4800 rpm and thats all she's got. Dont get me wrong, when i hit the hotfoot it jumps out of the hole good, really good. What size prop would be able to get close to the same results on take off but give me higher top end? I say i think on the prop size because the guy that had the boat before me must have been in some pretty gnarly stuff because thats the only number i can see on the prop.

Re: 1996 DT140 Prop

That's not the pitch, that's the diameter, the pitch on this would probably be 21" or more....but i suspect you have 23" pitch or more and that you
have way too much....you can't run this motor at that low a WOT RPM for many years....bad for engine...bad bad. MUST run at 5500 or more at WOT.
or you can do damage to engine, like running a car in top gear(manual) up a hill at 40mph....not good.
You need to go to prop shop and borrow(any decent prop shop has loaners) a 14.25D x 21P (14.25 diam. 21 pitch) prop (or as close as possible) and see where that puts you. Your top speed may not increase much, but you have to get the RPM up if you want that motor to last.
