1996 Evinrude 50Hp Kill Switch HELP!!

hey guys and gals my motor runs fine and turns off fine but when i went to hook up my kill switch witch is a 2 wire system and my control is black/yellow and black wire system i can't turn on my motor. But if i have the motor running and then hook up the wires for the kill switch then activate the kill switch it would shut off but i can't start the motor after i reset the kill switch. Anyone have any idea at all

That is a pretty simple setup. One side of the switch to the black/yellow wire and the other to ground. If that's the way you have it then it sounds like a defective switch.
