Hi IBOATS ~ I just bought a used Merc 150 HP Blackmax (2 stroke) from a local guy on CL. He said it was running when taken off and that he just had alot of $$ put into it. Selling it because he got a deal on a 200 hp. When I got it home i found that it was seized. I tried Marvel down all cyls. after I took plugs out and let it sit . Also sprayed WD. Hit the crank nut with impact gun and then breaker bar-no good. Took off heads and the cyl walls and pistons looked great. Sprayed more Marvel- wont budge a hair. The lower unit spins and then goes into FWD and REV. as far as I can tell. I'm thinking the next thing is take off the power head and inspect the crank. I didn't try PB or Kroil yet. Maybe just a case of using a better rust penetrant and letting it sit longer. The marking on the components are from the beginning of last year and the rest of the motor looks great. I git the motor and controls very reasonable and the guy has mutual friends of my brother-in -law so I don't believe he knowingly sold me a motor he knew was seized. I'm thinking it's the crank needle bearings? Hoping that's not the case, but, everything is starting to lean towards that. Any input woul be greatly appreciated. I'll try to post some pics .

Thanks-I'll do that tomorrow. I've been reading that 's what it could be. Also ,, hairline fracture in lower unit and it looks (and smells) like lower unit gear oil.

Hope you got a real good deal. Sounds like a new lower might be in your future.

FWIW I'm on my 3rd SEI lower and I swear by them.

I dropped the lower today- came off easily.I put an impact gun to the flywheel bolt and it seemed to turn maybe 1/4 ". I might need more torque ( more powerful impact setup) .I'm only using a Craftsman 25 gal. compressor and maybe puts out 100psi to the gun. Also tried a breaker bar with a 4' steel pipe and still nothing. My friend has a Snap-on impact cordless that I'm gonna try next.

Pull tha plugs out and use a wrench/ratchet. You should be able ta turn it by hand........

WOW ~ impact air ,breaker bars, help from a friend- alot of penetrant/patience. Little by little finally got it to spin. Something I guess with the crank bearings? Now the carbs are seized closed. So I'll be heading for a rebuild on those. At least I got the motor to spin freely. Thanks to all for the moral and tech support.
PS ~ I want to post pics I just forgot how to.

Ha! Buyer beware ~ To tell you the truth I really wasn't expecting much ( I only paid $200 for the motor including all controls/cables) I really don't think the guy was trying to get over. Even the carb throttles were/are seized. May have been some water etc. in the gas and that's what did it , or just from sitting on it's side in the elements. The prop alone is like brand new, and the inside of the motor is super clean. All in all if I part it out I'll recoup some $$ just for parts alone.

I know your right with that. I see what some of the parts are going for on these ,but things are looking promising with it so far now.
