Just got a new tach for our boat which has a 96 Mercury 150 xr6 on it. Tach goes to 8k. The pontoon boat had a mid 80s Mercury 50 when I got it without a working tach. I then put a 2000 Mercury 225 EFI on, which proved to be too much so I traded to the 150. Motor is much smoother but I have no clue how many rpms I'm running. Anyone have an idea on what the tach setting should be for this motor? I've read this is probably a 12 pole but my tach doesn't have an option for that.

Usually a tachometer will have a 6 pulse or 12 pole setting, if compatible with a Merc OB. Try the 6P setting if you have one.
